Remedial massage targets specific injuries and/or areas of chronic muscle tension causing pain and restricted movements. Your therapist will take a history, test to identify problem muscles, assess your overall mobility, and then tailor a specific treatment plan. A wide range of remedial techniques can be used including stretches and joint mobilisations, cupping, and deep tissue massage.
Deep tissue
Deep tissue massage is one technique of remedial massage. It relieves chronically tight and painful muscles by working through the superficial muscle layers, to reach the deeper muscle layers and other soft tissues. It’s main strokes are strong, sustained kneading of muscle utilising longitudinal stripping strokes and cross fibre friction strokes.
Relaxation
Relaxation massage is a full body (excluding private parts), pain free style to relax and loosen both body and mind. Originating in Sweden, relaxation massage uses gentle, long, slow flowing strokes, soft muscle kneading, vibrations, mild stretches, and light frictions to tighter spots. Sonoko enhances the experience with the use of warm steam packs and hot towels.
Pregnancy – pre & post natal
Pregnancy massage provides an opportunity to step back from what your doing, switch off and just totally relax. It decreases stress hormones and increases the peace, calm and contentment hormones. Helpful in relieving most of discomforts associated with pregnancy such as nausea, heartburn, cramps, and especially muscle and joint aches. Shown to reduce feelings of fatigue, and improve sleep patterns. Importantly, Sonoko is a specialist, certified in pregnancy massage training for your ease of mind and safety.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
MLD is different to other massage styles being very slow, light, and targeting the body’s lymphatic system, not muscles. It originated in hospitals in Austria as a medical procedure for the treatment of lymphoedema (an acquired or inherited condition characterized by fluid swellings, especially of the limbs). Sonoko has completed specific training, and MLD is able to help with general fluid swellings, post surgery recovery, acute injuries, and poor immunity.
